Stock Fabric vs Custom Knitting and Dyeing
Stock material improves speed; custom material improves control but raises minimums.
What brands need to know
Stock fabric can reduce lead time and minimums, but shade, available quantity, lot consistency and repeatability must be confirmed. Custom production allows composition, yarn, construction, weight, width, colour and finish to be developed around the product. Special knitted or dyed fabric commonly requires around 200 kg per colour in TGM programs and adds production time. The correct route depends on garment quantity, target price, repeat-order plan and how unique the fabric must be.
Production checklist
- Verify stock lot quantity
- Plan repeat-order continuity
- Compare garment yield per kilogram
- Add custom fabric lead time
How this affects your quotation
A reliable quotation depends on the final design, construction, fabric, GSM, colours, size range, quantity per style and colour, branding, packing, delivery country and target date. Commercial feasibility and material availability are reviewed before a price is confirmed.
