Shrinkage, Pilling and Colourfastness Testing
Fabric performance must be tested against the intended care and end use.
What brands need to know
Shrinkage is recorded separately in length and width after an agreed wash and drying method. Pilling evaluates surface fibre entanglement under controlled abrasion. Colourfastness may cover washing, rubbing, perspiration, light or water depending on the product. Results are meaningful only when the method, rating and tested material are identified. Compaction and finishing reduce risk but do not guarantee zero change. Print, embroidery and garment wash can alter final performance.
