Private Label, OEM and ODM Clothing Manufacturing
Understand who owns the design, specification and development work before approaching a factory.
What brands need to know
Private label production normally means garments are manufactured with the buyer's branding and specifications. OEM places greater emphasis on manufacturing a buyer-developed product, while ODM may include supplier-led design or development. These terms are used inconsistently, so a project should define deliverables instead of relying on an acronym. Confirm who prepares the tech pack, pattern, grading, material specification, artwork, labels and packaging; who owns the approved pattern; and whether development costs are included in the bulk price.
Production checklist
- Define design and pattern ownership
- List every development deliverable
- Confirm branding and packaging scope
- Record revision and approval responsibility
How this affects your quotation
A reliable quotation depends on the final design, construction, fabric, GSM, colours, size range, quantity per style and colour, branding, packing, delivery country and target date. Commercial feasibility and material availability are reviewed before a price is confirmed.
